Bacterial Cellulose

Material category: Cellulose

Process: Grown, Fermentation

Product application: Artificial plants

Year of development: 2022

Phase: Experimental

Material information:

Experiments of bacterial cellulose, grown on stinging nettle instead of black or green tea. By fermenting the garden waste with sugar, yeast and a specific type of bacteria, a biofilm is formed. This biofilm consist of pure cellulose and is comparable to plant cellulose. Thickness and appearance of the material depend on the temperature and duration of the fermentation process. This material research is part of the project ‘Philia, Bio-plant’.
